Texas Teen Book Festival Field Trip

What: Texas Teen Book Festival

When: Saturday, September 26, 2015  (9am - 6pm)

Where: St. Edward's University - Austin, TX

Why: Connect students with their favorite and soon to be favorite authors,  other readers, and to inspire a love of reading and           writing

Who:  Any HCMS student

About the Festival: www.texasteenbookfestival.org

Other: 
  • The festival is FREE to attend
  • All students will receive a HCMS TTBF t-shirt to wear on the field trip.  This will help us to easily identify those in our group.  They may also get authors to sign their shirts.
  • Students MUST bring food or $/CC to purchase food for the day - concessions will be available all day
  • Students SHOULD bring extra $/CC to purchase books
  • Students will be able to buy books and get them signed by the authors
  • Students MUST be with another student (buddy system) or adult chaperone at all times.  Designated check-in times will be scheduled so that students can check in with Mrs. Schubert.
  • Students MAY want to bring a backpack or bag to carry their belongings and any books they purchase.  There is a lot of SWAG given away at the festival as well.
  • All parent/guardians will be given Mrs. Schubert's cell phone number in case of an emergency
  • Students WILL be allowed to bring their phones and cameras.

What: Book Release Party & meet the Author EventJoin us when we celebrate the release of Sass and Serendipity, the new YA novel by our good friend and local Austin author JENNIFER ZIEGLER. Sass and Serendipity is about the ups and downs of sisterhood, and is a tribute to Jane Austen (whose novel Sense and Sensibility celebrates its 200th anniversary this year.)




The festivities will commence on July 23 at 2PM with a short talk from Jennifer, and then a signing and general fun. See you there!

VIDEO CONTEST
MARCH 6 -12
The state is reducing funding for technology in schools. 
Create a 1-3 minute video about "Why technology is important to our school."  
You may use any video creation tool to create your own, original video. 


Guidelines:
*Students may work alone or in groups of up to four
* Entries may be live-action, animation, images, or a combination
* Entries must be submitted to Mrs. Schubert by 4pm on Friday, March 11
* Contestants agree that HCMS may publish their video on School Tube and the HCMS Library web site
* Music, images, and video clips included in the video must be legally licensed either by obtaining the copyright holder’s permission, using materials licensed through Creative Commons licensing, or using entirely original content created by the student(s) submitting

The former Lone Star book, Avalon High by Meg Cabot, has been turned into a Disney movie! 
Students must be picked up at 6pm sharp on the patio out by the tennis courts.

LONE STAR BREAKFAST PARTY
TUESDAY, JANUARY 11 (7:50 AM - 8:20 AM)
IN THE HCMS LIBRARY
Students who have read at least 10 Lone Star books will be invited to the Breakfast Party!  
Invitations will go out Monday morning. 
We will be eating donuts and kolaches, playing games, and winning prizes!

WEDNESDAY, JANUARY 12 (ALL LUNCHES)
Sign up in the library!
We will send passes to students in the morning so that they may come straight to the library with their lunch. We will eat our lunches while we play!
